Before I get to your questions, I wanted to thank those of you who joined us in Las Vegas for our annual meet and greet/fantasy football draft. While we enjoyed hanging out with all of our lady friends (in whatever dental state they may have been in), we do regret perhaps imbibing too much hard liquor too quickly. But hey, the present we left on the floor of Sin is what that club deserved for not having better talent so we’re not entirely sorry.

That said, on to your questions:

Dear sir ,

the height of micheal jordan and kobe bryant and randy moss

Phill Johnson

Mr. Johnson,

This would have been one of the most difficult questions I have ever received except for the fact that I have this little thing called the internet. You may not be aware of the Net http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet (though the fact you used e-mail leads me to believe you are familiar with it) but it is a tool you can use to look up simple information such as the heights of certain players, the career stats of every major leaguer, and how to book the great Carmen Kinsley. In short, the internet is now about more than porn so in the future you can toggle off the Bang Brothers and on to Google to find the answers to questions like this yourself.

As for your question, Michael Jordan is listed as being 6 foot 6 inches, Kobe Bryant is also listed at 6 foot 6 inches, and Randy Moss is listed as 6 foot 4 inches (though a Fletch like 6 foot 6 with the afro).

who determines who gets to be the home team, and thus have choice in jersey color, in the nat. champ. (bcs) game?

Al T.

Big Al,

The home team in the BCS championship game is the #1 team as determined by the BCS formula. If you watch college football for the skill and the action, and more than just the color of the uniforms, you will know that the BCS formula is rather convoluted. It is determined by a formula which averages the Harris poll, some computer polls, the coaches poll, the number of outed Christian conservative family values politicians from a college’s home state (kudos to Idaho this year), the ratio of a school’s cheerleaders who wear underwear to those who don’t (which explains why USC always does so well), and the total number of “Whoa Nellie’s” uttered by Kerith Jackson during a team’s season. This formula determines the #1 and #2 teams in college football and the #1 team is the home team in the BCS championship and thus gets to wear the home colors.

(note see below for Big Al's follow up and AC's response)

AC, sorry to burst your comedic bubble but if it were that simple, i wouldn't have posed the question. last year #1 ohio st (#1 in every poll, including bcs) wore road white---fla wore home blue. following the 2001 season miami, fl (also, consensus #1) wore road white---neb wore home red. so bcs #1 is not always designated home team. i was hoping to get an answer from someone who actually knew what they were talking about not someone taking a guess. please, unless you have an official source who knows for sure (e.g. it's determined by coin flip or some other random process) i'm not interested in any more of your wrong guesses. -Al

Big Al,

I don’t usually give fans a second e-mail (this will be the first, which makes you highly unlucky) but I did do a sloppy job in answering your question and if I don’t have credibility than I am just another brilliant handicapper who can make dick jokes on a whim.

Anyway, the home team, which is the BCS rated #1 team, gets to choose the color of their uniforms as far as I can tell. As you can see from this blog in the NYTimes (and the NYTimes wouldn’t print any thing false, right?):

Just tuned in and I notice that Ohio State is wearing white (away) and Florida its colors (home). How is this determined?

BHS:

Re uniform colors:

I asked about this in the office. Best line: It depends who wins the all-star game.

We don’t have an answer yet. Does any reader out there know why THE Ohio State University is wearing its away colors?

OK, we have an answer, BHS:

OSU is the designated home team, but it chose to wear its white road jerseys. Go figure.

The reason for this choice seems to be due to Ohio State’s success wearing white in previous Fiesta bowl games (no joke, you can google that one too and find a brief reference to it here http://www.fanblogs.com/ohio_state/006259.php). I think this should better answer your question, though I did prefer the first one which included a link to the lovely USC song girls

Why does Kevin Durant have a different last name than his parents?

Martha whitley

Ms. Whitey,

Thanks for the question and apologies for taking so long to get back to you. We have been inundated with questions here at www.Wagercom.com and yours has involved more research than our normal "does my ass look fat in these jeans?" with picture attached question that we normally get (and feel free to send us a pic).

I have asked many of my college hoops and NBA sources, contacted a genealogist, and even spoken with reporters who follow Texas, to try to understand why Kevin Durant has a different last name than his parents, the Pratts.

The answer is actually quite simple and unanimous. Kevin Durant has a different name than his biological parents because he is black. It's common in the African American community given all of the baby's mommas and Shawn Kemps out there to have a last name which does not match the last name of one’s parents. While Durant's biological parents are married, he likely adopted a different last name to fit in with his friends and be accepted by the community.

Ok, maybe that's not the right answer. In all seriousness, it appears that Durant's parents were separated for several years when he was growing up and his mom remarried at that point in time. My guess would be that Durant took the name of his stepfather when that happened and never changed it back. That sounds like a better answer.

God Bless,

AC
