What a week it has been in the sports world. Tom Brady tore his ACL, MCL, and the hearts of all of the New England Patriots fans, Vince Young went a bit nutty and pulled a Dennis Rodman circa 1987, and Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur proved that smoking weed with hookers in the NBA’s boy’s room isn’t cool. As if that weren’t enough for one week, Doc Rivers signed a contract extension with the Boston Celtics to pay him upwards of $5.5MM per year though there is no word if a “play Eddie House” over Sam Cassell clause was put in there. We’ve had a great week and the baseball races are getting closer so enjoy the sports world and the questions below.

I have a question about baseball . How is it that there are trades im MLB after the trade deadline how does that work?

please write me back,

Mitch

Mitch,

This is one of the most frequent questions I get, right up there with “Who has the record for most free throws made in a career?,” “What is Coco Crisp’s real first name?,” and “can I take my thumb out of there yet?” The answers of course being Karl Malone, Covelli, and shut up and keep sucking.

Of course none of that is relevant to your question.

Trades in major league baseball can happen after the trade deadline if a player clears waivers. A team can put a player on waivers at any time after the deadline and any team can claim that player. The worst team has the first right to claim a player on waivers and it goes in reverse order from there. If a team claims a player on waivers, those two teams have a window of 48 hours to work out a deal. If no deal can be worked out, then the player is pulled from waivers and is kept by his current team.

The key is that playoff roster eligibility is not determined until August 31 so a player can be put on waivers and traded after the deadline and up until August 31 and still appear in playoffs. Trades can be made after that date but players in those trades will not be eligible for the playoffs.

AC,

Why did Carolina kick the extra point on Sunday when they scored with no time left on the clock? The TD gave them a 25-24 lead with no time left so there was no need to make it 26-24 with the extra point. What was the deal with that?

BoBo,

The simple answer is that Carolina coach John Fox had over 49.5 on the game and wagered one of his kid’s kidneys, so he clearly had no choice (I am told the wager was a kidney for a blumpkin from Taylor Rain, so it was definitely worth the extra point).

If you don’t believe that, and there is really no reason you should, the answer is a bit more devious. The 9th and 10th tiebreakers for making the playoffs in the NFL are best net points in common games and best net points in all games. Unlike overtime which is sudden death and ends immediately when someone scores, regulation is not sudden death so the team has the option to kick the extra point, go for two, or just down the ball if they score with no time on the clock. Carolina opted for the extra point in case they get to the 9th or 10th tiebreaker in making the playoffs. Stranger things have happened, like Flavor Flav’s career or Heidi Klum marrying this guy.

Mr. Titticock,

I have this weird thing for the US Women’s soccer team, often picturing them bicycle kicking while nude. Anyway, which one on the team do you think is the hottest?

Bobby B

Mr. B,

First of all, you can call me AC, my dad is Mr. Titticock. Secondly, I would say the one with the smallest penis is the hottest (drum shot please).

Actually, this is an interesting question as I don’t know anyone on the team so I can be thoroughly objective. I went to the website and looked at the head shots and let me assure you, if this were a just and fair world, either Stephanie Cox or Shannon Boxx would be the hottest girls on the team but unfortunately they are not (and I promise you I did not make up either of those names but I wonder if when they practice Cox ever falls into Boxx).

I did narrow it down to three girls, Tobin Heath, Lindsay Tarpley, and Heather Mitts. When I did a google search on them to see more than just the head shot, Tobin Heat quickly dropped out of contention and not just because she has a boy’s name (she may also have a boy’s special part if you know what I mean).

That narrowed it down to the reasonably cute and probably underrated Lindsay Tarpley and this Heather Mitts chick who apparently has done a bunch of modeling though has been tossed around by a slew of athletes including tennis player James Blake, Phillies outfielder Pat Burrell, and one-time back-up quarter back AJ Touchy-Feeley. Given her predilection for marginal athletes and likely over-inflated view of her self due to posing in magazines, Heather Mitts is probably used goods. Therefore I would go Lindsay Tarpley first, second, and depending on her stamina, third.

Enjoy the soup,

AC
