04/02/04 Week 23 Free NBA Picks Against the Spread
I am excited to announce the addition of our new NBA Basketball expert analyst AC Titticock. While leafing through resumes prior to selecting our new NBA Basketball gambling expert it became clear that AC was the man for the job. Not only did his analysis come across entertaining but it was clear he knew the NBA and about betting on basketball. I am confident you will find his outlook on the NBA extremely useful especially when it comes to his weekly free NBA Basketball picks against the spread. AC will be providing us with a weekly outlook and his free NBA Basketball picks on some of the weekend games each Friday and sometimes Saturday as well.
AC has started the NBA betting season with a 49% winning percentage against the spread on his NBA basketball picks after 137 games.
NBA BASKETBALL WEEK 23
I’m back. After a week’s hiatus, your boy AC is here with more insight into the NBA. I know you’ve all wanted to know, how many kids does Scottie Pippen have? Does Doug Christie wear the purses he designs? Is John Carroll the stupidest human being in the world? I’ll tackle those issues another time (but quickly, 23, only when he has the shoes to match, and yes).
Today we look at the race for the last playoff spot in both divisions:
The East: New York, Boston -1, Cleveland -2.5
If this were the Yankees and the Red Sox, this would be a classic pennant race. Unfortunately, it is the Knicks and the Celtics, neither of which deserve to even be mentioned in the same sentence as the playoffs but I will break it down for you anyway.
Knicks: Strengths: The selfish play of Marbury which allows him not to pass the ball to his crappy teammates, Nazr Mohammed who is the most underrated big man in the game, and the fact that they are being chased by the awful Celtics. Weaknesses: Their players are awful, Allen Houston’s constant move to the injury list, and Stephon Marbury’s selfish play.
Prediction: the Knicks have an easy schedule the rest of the way. I expect them to go 4-3 and nudge out the crappy Celtics for the 7th spot.
Celtics: Strengths: The improved play of Chucky Atkins and Mark Blount, Pierce’s occasional good game, the fast paced play of Jiri Welsch and Ricky Davis. Weaknesses: The fact that they rely on the improved play of Chucky Atkins and Mark Blount, they don’t utilize Brandon Hunter or Chris Mihm, Paul Pierce is not focused, and they have the all time stupidest coach in the history of the NBA (ML, you may be safe) in John Carroll. Carroll insists on rolling out Walter McCarty for 40 minutes a night so they can get out rebounded by 15+ by the other team’s power forward. The Celtics were 3-1 when Brandon Hunter was getting minutes. Carroll, you’re an idiot. Have fun coaching in the NBDL next year, you bozo.
Prediction: The Celtics will go 4-3 and fall one win short of the 7th spot but hang on to the chance to get smoked by the Pacers as they will lose to Atlanta in their final home game. The loss comes as Carroll leaves Walter McCarty in the game to shoot 3-59 from the field, all three pointers, and the C’s get outrebounded 79-5. Also, Welsch, Davis, Mihm, and Hunter log a combined 5 minutes as Carroll decides just not to use substitutes when he rests players.
Cleveland: Strengths: Ledong. Weaknesses: Everybody not named LeDong. Prediction: Next year, next year.
West: Utah and Portland tied, Denver -.5
Utah: Strengths: Jerry Sloan (the anti-John Carroll), Kirilenko, they play the game well and are fun to watch. Weaknesses: It’s not hockey, no real scoring threat after Kirilenko who can drive to the hoop, they are running Tom Gugliotta out there with the starters and it is not 1995.
Prediction: 3-4 the rest of the year. Tough schedule, won’t be enough to get them to their inevitable first round loss.
Portland: Strengths: Darius Miles dropped 31 on the Celtics the other night, if he figures out how to play, this team is good. Shaareef, Randolph, and all-overrated Theo Ratliff make an awesome front court. Ratliff is really playing well, and I can’t believe I just said that.
Prediction: 4-3. They get San Antonio twice and the Lakers twice. Not good for the Blazers but they are playing very well right now. I expect them to squeak one of those out and finish with the last playoff spot. Sorry Utah, maybe next year when you bring back Eaton.
Denver: Strengths: Carmelo can play this game. Boykins, Camby, and Andre Miller, can also play. Weaknesses: Their problem is, they lack a second consistent scoring option and their defense is porous.
Prediction: 3-3. Not enough this year. Next year will be much different with Melo understanding defense is important.
So there you have it, the Knicks (ugh, I hate them) and the Blazers make the playoffs and get to lose in the first round.
On to the free NBA picks for Friday (April 2nd):
New York +1 at New Jersey:
No Kidd, no win. If the Knicks lose this one, disregard my predictions above and go with the Celtics for playoff spot number 8.
Washington at Minnesota -8:
Whose going to guard Garnett? Seriously, I have no idea.
Cleveland at Milwaukee -4.5:
Last time I took this game I got hammered. The Bucks should run away with this and win by 8.
Bonus Game:
LA Clippers +3.5 at Chicago:
I don’t care how many games the Bulls win, they are terrible with a capital Tyson Chandler. Take my boys the Clips.
