11/06/04 Week 1 NBA Picks
AC's outlook on the NBA is an entertaining original column featured here at Wagercom. If you are prone to NBA betting or even just an NBA fan, make sure you come back often to read his articles and free NBA Basketball picks against the spread. AC will be providing us with a weekly outlook during the basketball season including free NBA Basketball picks on some of the weekend games each Friday and Saturday.
Our NBA expert AC wrapped up the 2003-2004 NBA betting season with a 51% winning percentage against the spread on his basketball picks after 190 games.
It’s week one of the 2004-2005 NBA season and I am giddier than both Patrick Ewing at the Gold Club and Calvin Murphy at a foster home. I am ready to make you all money this year with my weekly picks. It’s been an interesting first few days with the Jazz looking like world beaters, the Clips starting with a unheard of 1 game winning streak, and absolutely no arrests of any of the JailBlazers (this has to be some kind of record). Chris Mihm has had his career game, Kobe Bryant has been good and bad, and we welcomed back Mr. Grant Hill who has had more foot surgeries than Flavor Flav has gold teef.
Anyway, I saw highlights of the Charlotte team and it looked like about 1/3 of the seats were empty so way to go David Stern for further diluting the NBA talent for absolutely no reason. I don’t get it, why bring Charlotte another team when they didn’t support the first one? Couldn’t we just put a team in Oakland instead? Oh wait, they have the Warriors. Hmmm, I never thought Isiah would have a challenger for the worst GM throne but Mullin has thrown away enough money on mediocre players that he is drawing comparisons to Pitino (Greg Minor anyone?). That said, I am very excited about the start of the season and even have a fantasy team built around team defense, speed, chemistry, and most visible tattoos. Now I’m ready to start collecting again from my bookie to pay for my nightly bottle of Crystal and KFC popcorn chicken while sitting on my porch listening to the Winans with my good friend Ms. Alabama 1999 (ask Jiggy for details).
Picks for Saturday 11/6/2004:
Ok, so I’m a little rusty after going 2-2 in my opening night picks. Who knew the Bulls would spot the Nets 20 points in the first half before coming back? I would like to say I picked the game before I knew Eddy Curry was not going to play, so I apologize for that. Also, when did Loren Woods turn in to Wilt Chamberlain and why is a dude named Loren? On the bright side, the Celtics and Pacers each broke 90 and the Jazz just urinated on the hapless Warriors. I really can’t believe how much money Mullin spent to get 2 points from Troy Murphy, somewhere Alton Lister is rolling over in his grave.
Anyway, on to the free NBA picks for Saturday night.
Celtics +5.5 at Knicks:
Wow, I really hate all of the games tonight and I hate betting on the Celtics but the Knicks are just really not that good. They may win, but not by more than 3. Look for Pierce to have a huge game and even Googs to chip in for old times sake.
Sixers at Pistons Under 176.5:
Like I said, I hate all of the games so when in doubt, take Detroit and the under. Iverson is going to shoot 4 of 72 form the floor, in the first half no less.
CavaQueers at Bucks -3.5:
I am going to the well early on this season. The Bucks somehow consistently get it done and the CavaQueers just look plain sloppy right now. As an aside, do any of you realize Toni Kukoc is still in the NBA? Not only that but he actually contributes, I am amazed. Next thing you know some team will be dumb enough to give Mark Blount a multi-year multi-million dollar contract, oh wait, already happened. Great move Ainge, you dope.
Special Howdy Doody Saturday of opening week bonus pick for all the kids out there:
Grizzlies at Mavericks -7.5:
Dallas is good, shhhhhhhhhhhhh. Don’t let anybody know.
