4/30/05 NBA Playoff Picks - Week 2
AC's outlook on the NBA is an entertaining original column featured here at Wagercom. If you are prone to NBA betting or even just an NBA fan, make sure you come back often to read his articles and free NBA Basketball picks against the spread. AC will be providing us with a weekly outlook during the basketball season including free NBA Basketball picks on some of the weekend games each Friday and Saturday.
Our NBA expert AC wrapped up the 2003-2004 NBA betting season with a 51% winning percentage against the spread on his basketball picks after 190 games and has improved that to a 57% winning percentage against the spread so far this season.
The playoffs are starting to get heated up and we already have some surprises. The Sonics are trying to prove they are for real, the Nuggets are showing why they are the second best team in the NBA, and the Celtics are proving that a low basketball IQ can not overcome a talent advantage. I could write a tome on the inefficiencies of Paul Pierce, his lack of getting others involved, his selfishness, and his inability to get better, but how many times can it be said? Ugh, he is the most frustrating player in the NBA because he just doesn’t get it and after 7 years, he just never will. It’s like dating a hot chick who keeps saying she will have a threesome with her hot friend and then pulls out at the last minute every time. You can’t tell her to go away because she’s hot, but then again, nobody likes a tease.
Anyway, the most interesting series has been the Rockets and the Mavericks. McGrady is playing like he has been using the same trainer as Barry Bonds. He has been dominant and Yao has shown up as well. The Mavs are getting killed by the Rockets solid play from their reserves, even if they are all the same player. Game 4 is critical but it is going to be tough for the Mavs to pull that one out.

Friday's NBA Playoff Picks:
Detroit -3.5 at Philadelphia:
This series is going to be a sweep no matter how many shots Iverson takes. Detroit is the best team in the East and Philly is 4 players short of competing with them (and those players are Charles Barkley, Andrew Toney, Maurice Cheeks, and Mike Gminski). The Sixers have one good game in them, just hope it’s not tonight. Take the Pistons.
Phoenix -1.5 at Memphis:
How do you spell sweep? F-R-A-T-E-L-L-O. The Suns have too much fire power and if you watched ESPN’s Teammates game show, you would know that Stoudamire and Q are on the juice. Kool Aid that is, they love the red Kool-Aid and for that I give them props. Suns in another laugher.
Seattle at Sacramento Over 202.5:
I am starting to rethink the Sonics thing, but in the meantime, expect a lot of points.
Saturday's Playoff Picks:
2-1 last night as somehow the Pistons choked against the Sixers. Hey, there was a non-zero possibility of that happening which is why they call it gambling. Just means the Pistons are a lock for the next two games.
Chicago at Washington Over 202:
The Wiz need to come out flying. Look for them to put up 110 which means the Bulls just need to stay with them.
Dallas at Houston Under 198.5:
This game is an obvious over bet which is why I am taking the under. The Rockets are going to bring some tough defense so it will be up to the Mavs to hit clutch shots. This game is a Rockets blow out or the Mavs at the buzzer, either way, the scoring should be down.
Boston at Indiana Over 180.5:
Will the real Boston Celtics please stand up, please stand up, please stand up? Without Walker they are likely to get blown out again, or on the other hand, they could play up to their talent level and win a game. Either way, Pierce will force up a bunch of shots and some will go in, so take the over.
