5/14/05 NBA Playoff Picks - Week 4
AC's outlook on the NBA is an entertaining original column featured here at Wagercom. If you are prone to NBA betting or even just an NBA fan, make sure you come back often to read his articles and free NBA Basketball picks against the spread. AC will be providing us with a weekly outlook during the basketball season including free NBA Basketball picks on some of the weekend games each Friday and Saturday.
Our NBA expert AC wrapped up the 2003-2004 NBA betting season with a 51% winning percentage against the spread on his basketball picks after 190 games and has improved that to a 57% winning percentage against the spread so far this season.
What a week it has been, Round 2 of the NBA playoffs started with the contenders clearly stepping up, Onterrio Smith got caught with the Whizzinator (and yes this is one of the most brilliant stories I have ever seen and yes it deserves a whole column sometime. I mean, the dude was carrying around a dildo and dried urine, why is this stuff never on reality tv?), and your humble NBA columnist, AC Titticock (that is me) will be graduating from one of this country’s finest institutions with a Masters of Business Administration degree (it is definitely a pox on our education system). That is right, your boy AC does have a day job (or will starting soon). It’s hard to believe but my life is not all groupies, lobster tails, and winning cash on the NBA, probably only about 80%. Either way, I will continue to deliver you free cash even though I am soon to go back to the working world.
With that said, it’s time for the Round 2 update where several teams have stepped up their games.
Washington vs. Miami: The Heat are clearly in another league than the Wizards with or without Shaq. Like I’ve said all along, there are 5 teams head and shoulders above the rest (Miami, San Antonio, Detroit, Phoenix, and Dallas) and the Wiz aren’t one of them. The problem with Washington is that they are soft. They lack a bruiser to give them some attitude and inside presence (and don’t give me that Brendan Haywood crap). They are a nice little team but this is the playoffs and nice little teams don’t last too long.
However, this series has given way to the best quote of the playoffs so far. Shaq eloquently stated "I know one day, I'm going to wake up and it's not going to be there," O'Neal said, referring to the soreness in his leg. "When that day comes, whoever we're playing, they're going to be in trouble ... I've been playing like Erick Dampier."http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2005/news/story?id=2059037
You gotta love the big guy randomly ripping into Eric “Big Contract Year” Dampier.
Indiana vs. Detroit: Somehow the Pistons lost game 2, probably because they were bored and spent the whole time scoping out chicks in the crowd. Once the Pistons decide to play, this series is over, unfortunately, they have been pretty lax all year. I would be surprised if the Pistons didn’t sweep the next three though.
Seattle at San Antonio: Somehow the Sonics pulled one out last night, perhaps we should check Jerome James’ bag for the Whizzinator. This guy has come out of nowhere and is putting up numbers, he must be in a contract year, no? Anyway, Duncan is clearly the best player but anytime you are rolling out 52 year old Robert Horry in your 9 man rotation, you should expect to lose a game or two. The Spurs should win the next two going away.
Dallas vs Phoenix: What a great series this is. It would almost be like a Taylor Rain-Janine Lindemulder 20 minute short, just fun exciting play performed by the people who do it best. The Mavs got a big break (no pun intended) with Joe Johnson’s fractured eye socket. Jim Jackson is decent, but losing a starter is obviously a big hit for Phoenix’s rotation. It may mean more Walter McCarty and that is never good unless Walter McCarty is your code name for hot lesbians. I do have to say, this is the one series that has your boy AC going back and forth. Phoenix is the better team but Dallas has a ton of talent and can play Phoenix’s style. The Joe Johnson injury may actually decide this series.

Friday's NBA Playoff Picks:
Detroit -4 at Indiana:
This almost seems like a sucker bet but I am not biting. The Pistons are just a much better team than the Pacers. Tinsley has helped Indiana immensely but he is about to be shut down by Billups. The Pistons seem to be lethargic until challenged, consider them challenged now.
Phoenix at Dallas Under 222.5:
I just think this is going to be a low scoring game, with one of the teams struggling to break 100. Like I said, this is a tough series to handicap right now. If there were other games to pick from, I would leave this off the board so be careful with your cash allocation.
Saturday's Playoff Picks:
1-1 last night thanks to the Pacers somehow learning how to play. Wow, Detroit looked like crap, perhaps I have been overrating them but I still think they will make the finals.
Miami at Washington Over 205.5:
This is a game the Wizards could win, especially if Shaq does not play. The Heat are not as good as they played last game so if the Wiz can keep up the effort, they could steal this one. Either way, both teams are breaking 100.
