5/19/05 NBA Playoff Picks - Week 5

AC's outlook on the NBA is an entertaining original column featured here at Wagercom. If you are prone to NBA betting or even just an NBA fan, make sure you come back often to read his articles and free NBA Basketball picks against the spread. AC will be providing us with a weekly outlook during the basketball season including free NBA Basketball picks on some of the weekend games each Friday and Saturday.

Our NBA expert AC wrapped up the 2003-2004 NBA betting season with a 51% winning percentage against the spread on his basketball picks after 190 games and has improved that to a 56% winning percentage against the spread so far this season.

What a week it has been, Round 2 of the NBA playoffs started with the contenders clearly stepping up, Onterrio Smith got caught with the Whizzinator (and yes this is one of the most brilliant stories I have ever seen and yes it deserves a whole column sometime. I mean, the dude was carrying around a dildo and dried urine, why is this stuff never on reality tv?), and your humble NBA columnist, AC Titticock (that is me) will be graduating from one of this country’s finest institutions with a Masters of Business Administration degree (it is definitely a pox on our education system). That is right, your boy AC does have a day job (or will starting soon). It’s hard to believe but my life is not all groupies, lobster tails, and winning cash on the NBA, probably only about 80%. Either way, I will continue to deliver you free cash even though I am soon to go back to the working world.

With that said, it’s time for the Round 2 update where several teams have stepped up their games.

Washington vs. Miami: The Heat are clearly in another league than the Wizards with or without Shaq. Like I’ve said all along, there are 5 teams head and shoulders above the rest (Miami, San Antonio, Detroit, Phoenix, and Dallas) and the Wiz aren’t one of them. The problem with Washington is that they are soft. They lack a bruiser to give them some attitude and inside presence (and don’t give me that Brendan Haywood crap). They are a nice little team but this is the playoffs and nice little teams don’t last too long.

However, this series has given way to the best quote of the playoffs so far. Shaq eloquently stated "I know one day, I'm going to wake up and it's not going to be there," O'Neal said, referring to the soreness in his leg. "When that day comes, whoever we're playing, they're going to be in trouble ... I've been playing like Erick Dampier."http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2005/news/story?id=2059037

You gotta love the big guy randomly ripping into Eric “Big Contract Year” Dampier.

Indiana vs. Detroit: Somehow the Pistons lost game 2, probably because they were bored and spent the whole time scoping out chicks in the crowd. Once the Pistons decide to play, this series is over, unfortunately, they have been pretty lax all year. I would be surprised if the Pistons didn’t sweep the next three though.

Seattle at San Antonio: Somehow the Sonics pulled one out last night, perhaps we should check Jerome James’ bag for the Whizzinator. This guy has come out of nowhere and is putting up numbers, he must be in a contract year, no? Anyway, Duncan is clearly the best player but anytime you are rolling out 52 year old Robert Horry in your 9 man rotation, you should expect to lose a game or two. The Spurs should win the next two going away.

Dallas vs Phoenix: What a great series this is. It would almost be like a Taylor Rain-Janine Lindemulder 20 minute short, just fun exciting play performed by the people who do it best. The Mavs got a big break (no pun intended) with Joe Johnson’s fractured eye socket. Jim Jackson is decent, but losing a starter is obviously a big hit for Phoenix’s rotation. It may mean more Walter McCarty and that is never good unless Walter McCarty is your code name for hot lesbians. I do have to say, this is the one series that has your boy AC going back and forth. Phoenix is the better team but Dallas has a ton of talent and can play Phoenix’s style. The Joe Johnson injury may actually decide this series.

Free NBA Picks:

As a special bonus, I will be picking games for you during this week. No special reason, just want to bring you all more cash during the playoffs while I sit at home watching Jerry Springer.

Tuesday Night NBA Picks:

Indiana at Detroit Over 171.5:

That is right, I am taking the over and no I am not making that up. Neither one of these teams is skilled offensively but they are better than what they have shown. Plus they are moving back to Detroit and the rims in Auburn Hills are 1/8 of an inch wider than in Indiana. Ok, I just made that up but that is not the point. The point is, the Pistons are going to win (though I am 50-50 on the 8.5 spread which is why I am taking the over/under) and score in the 90s.

Seattle at San Antonio Over 186:

I know I am 2-3 when taking the over with the Sonics, but I also know I have undervalued them all year and have no idea how they will fare tonight. I know the Spurs are going to light it up though and that should get the over. I just can’t figure out this Sonics team, perhaps Ray Allen is just better than I give him credit for and maybe Jack Sikma really has inhabited the body of Jerome James in one of those Freaky Friday type moves.

Wednesday NBA Playoff Picks:

1-1 last night thanks to the inept Pacers offense. I should have known better but you have to figure they can score more than 25 points in the second and third quarters combined.

Dallas +6.5 at Phoenix:

I think Phoenix will win this game but it should be close. Joe Johnson’s absence is just sinking in so they need Jimmy Jackson to play strong. Perhaps they should tell him that Michael Finley has been sleeping with Toni Braxton

Thursday Night Playoffs Picks:

Thanks to a Shawn Marion missed free throw with less than 20 second left in the game, the Mavericks managed to only lose by 6, thus giving you all free cash if you listened to me. How about that choke by Dallas in the fourth though? Yikes. And how do you give Steve Nash 10 rebounds? The guy is like 1 foot 3 and weighs 32 pounds.

Detroit -5.5 at Indiana:

Detroit has been the most difficult team for me to handicap this year as they have been sluggish in about 90% of their games. I expect this game to be close until 6 minutes to go in the game and then the Pistons will take over. The Pacers have been solid and Carlisle has done an amazing job, but the Pistons are just too much. When the Pacers are up at half time, double down on your bet.

San Antonio at Seattle Under 186.5:

Just a feeling, and you all know how I feel about Seattle and the over.
