AC's outlook on the NBA is an entertaining original column featured here at Wagercom. If you are prone to NBA betting or even just an NBA fan, make sure you come back often to read his articles and free NBA Basketball picks against the spread. AC will be providing us with a weekly outlook during the basketball season including free NBA Basketball picks on some of the weekend games each Friday and Saturday.
Our NBA expert AC wrapped up the 2003-2004 NBA betting season with a 51% winning percentage against the spread on his basketball picks after 190 games and has improved that to a 57% winning percentage against the spread completing the 2004-2005 season.
NBA SATURDAY FREE PICKS:
The season is not even a week old and already the Knicks are reeling, Doc Rivers has made a glaring coaching mistake (come on Doc, guard the *&(*&^% inbound passer, jeesh), and the Hawks (who your boy AC thinks will be better this year) are 0-2. It’s nice to see that some things never change, well except for Larry Brown’s location and David Stern’s facial hair.
Anyway, I thought I would give you a quick update on the three things I am most excited about after watching the first four days of the season.
1. Andrew Bogut. If you read my draft review and NBA preview, you know I have been high on Bogut even though many thought it was a bad pick. The fact of the matter is that Bogut can play this game. I would compare him to a better passing, better rebounding, weaker shooting Raef LaFrentz and I mean that as a compliment, really I do (I could have called him a less athletic Tom Chambers but that wouldn’t have been fair to anyone). Bogut has shown a knack for grabbing boards (he had 17 against the Wolves), hitting shots, and even dishing out the ball with 4 assists in his second game. Where he struggles is on the defensive end. I listened to the first half of the Sixers-Bucks game on the radio (AC has a nasty commute) and Webber and Steven Hunter were torching the Bucks. I couldn’t tell if Magloire or Bogut was at fault but I am guessing Jamaal was trying to cover both guys. I mean Hunter had 6 points in the first 4 minutes and I don’t think that has happened to him since he was at DePaul and even then I’m not sure he ever did that. Either way, Bogut is fun to watch and the Bucks, with a healthy TJ Ford, should make things interesting this year.
2. The Jazz are back. Okur, Kirilenko, Harpring, and first round pick Deron “Darrin” Williams have come out strong. Mehmet (from the Turkish for “slow white guy”) is averaging 25 points over the first two games and Kirilenko plays defense like he’s getting paid by the rouble (and I am not entirely sure what that means, especially as 1 dollar = 28.5 roubles but that is not the point). If the Jazz can stay injury free, they are going to surprise a lot of people.
3. The names in this year’s NBA. We already have an addition to my Udonis Haslem (Demolish Anus) all anagram team with Fabricio Oberto (Rabbi for cootie), two Khalil Greene all-stars in Matt Barnes and Johan Petro who I can’t believe aren’t white (much like I can’t believe Khalil Greene isn’t black), and the continued presence of who I am now calling “The Big Diarrhea,” Ndudi Ebi. This would be cause for enough celebration but the Sixers are rolling out a guy named Deng Gai (Named for the Sudanese god of bench warming and phonetically similar to “Ben gay”) and the Clippers have perhaps the greatest name of all-time (right up their with the immortal Rusty Kuntz) in Boniface NDong . Let me repeat that one more time, Boniface NDong. Now those of you from Senegal know that the N in Ndong is either silent or can be translated as “with your,” thus the Americanized pronunciation becomes “bone-her-face with your dong.” Ndong jerseys for everybody.
Saturday Night’s NBA Picks:
Toronto at Detroit Under 188.5:
Both teams playing on the second night of back to back games in a different city. The Pistons can play some D and the Raptors are too young to handle the pressure. The only way this game goes over is if neither team tries or the Pistons just blow the doors off the Raptors. Take the under and hope this game is as sloppy as a freshman girl during her first week of college.
Minnesota +5.5 at LA Clippers:
The Clippers are not going to start 3-0, just not happening.
Orlando +8 at Washington:
The spreads are way too big this year for home teams. The Magic are not a good team but the Wizards are not 9 points better. Then again, the Magic are really bad, and I know I just said that. Ugh.
NBA FRIDAY FREE PICKS:
A lot of games tonight (Friday Night) so I thought I would chime in with some quick picks. The usual column will follow this weekend with more picks for Saturday night. Not to toot my own horn, but your boy AC has started off the year 4-0 which I believe if I do tha maff correctly, is 100% winning percentage (amazing what a masters in finance can get you). Of course, winning today is no guarantee of winning tomorrow, so please plan appropriately.
Detroit -4 at Boston:
It pains me to pick against my boys but the Pistons are a well-oiled machine and the Celtics barely rolled by the Knicks (and yes I said well-oiled). The Celtics have trouble against teams that can control the tempo (mainly as they have no point guard) and the Pistons can do exactly that. Some people would call this a win-win situation for me since if the Celtics win I am happy and if they lose, I win my bet. However I would call it lose-lose for the same reason, but then again I am the kind of guy that sees the strip club half empty instead of the boobs in my face.
Cleveland +7.5 at San Antonio:
I believe in LeDong. I don?t think the Cavs will win, but I don?t think they?ll get blown out either. My boy Hughes is going to shut Ginobili down.
Portland +11 at Denver:
Portland really isn?t as bad as people think. I know I already went to this well once with Portland +11 opening night at Minnesota, and I am sure they will eventually lose a game by >11, but this isn?t the night. Plus, Denver is going to have to tweak their rotation with Nene out with a Kneeknee.
Utah +7.5 at Golden State:
Yep, that makes it 4 road teams which could either be a recipe for disaster or a recipe for some dollars. Personally I prefer dollars so I am going to assume I am right. Plus I am pretty sure Kirilenko is not going to shoot 2 of 64 again like he did on opening night (and yes that is a bit exaggerated, but he is currently holding down AC's fantasy hoops team so you can understand my pain).
