AC's outlook on the NBA is an entertaining original column featured here at Wagercom. If you are prone to NBA betting or even just an NBA fan, make sure you come back often to read his articles and free NBA Basketball picks against the spread. AC will be providing us with a weekly outlook during the basketball season including free NBA Basketball picks on some of the weekend games each Friday and Saturday.
Our NBA expert AC wrapped up the 2003-2004 NBA betting season with a 51% winning percentage against the spread on his basketball picks after 190 games and has improved that to a 57% winning percentage against the spread completing the 2004-2005 season.
NBA WEEK 24 COLUMN & FREE PICKS:
Apparently nobody wants to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. Teams are running from the 7th and 8th seeds like it is a Ray Romano stand up show or like it will give them herpes. Washington, Indiana, Milwaukee, Chicago, and Philadelphia are all within two games of each other and all but one will make the playoffs. Instead of griping about having to pay city taxes or whining about needing some new free passwords to download porn (and if you have any, please send them my way), I will break down the race for the last playoff spots in the East.
Washington Wizards, currently 2 games up on the 8th spot with 4 to play: Just as AC was jumping back on the Wiz’s bandwagon (and yes, I love the nickname the Wiz, I only wish they would go with the more formal, The Urine, but I guess we can’t always win), they go and lose 7 out of their last 11. To say they are limping into the playoffs would be like saying Taylor Rain may be a little dirty, and let me just take a moment to myself to think about Ms. Rain in all her glory. The good news for the Wiz is that they really only need to win 1 out of 4 to get into the playoffs. The bad news is that they have no easy games. On the road at Chicago and Detroit and home for Milwaukee and Cleveland should be challenging but the Pistons may not play their starters and apparently LeDong has some ankle problems so expect the Wizards to pull two of those games out.
Indiana Pacers, currently 1 game up on the 8th spot with 4 to play: Another tough year for the Pacers thanks to the Ron Artesticle. Going 3 and 7 in their last 10 has not been helpful but they have Toronto, Charlotte, Minnesota, and Orlando left to play. If they win 2, they are in, and with that schedule they should go 3-1. Look for Larry Legend to overhaul this team in the offseason, starting with PG where Anthony “Beetlejuice” Johnson has beat out Jamal “I suck at basketball” Tinsley.
Milwaukee Bucks, currently 1 game up on the 8th spot with 4 to play: The Bucks had a big victory on Wednesday against the Wizards but like most of the other teams fighting for this last playoff spot, they are not playing well. They play the Knicks and the Hawks before facing the Pistons and Wizards and they should win those first two games. Still, this team is playing with no heart so I wouldn’t be surprised if they wound up going 0-4. Remember when people were overvaluing TJ Ford at the beginning of the year? That is why they call it regression to the mean.
Chicago Bulls, currently tied for the 8th spot with 4 to play: The Bulls are a team without an identity. They have no real go to guy, no proven all-star, and no chance to win a first round series. However, they have won 8 out of 10 and get to finish the year with Orlando and Toronto. Expect them to win both of those games which means the Sixers will have to win 3 to get in as I believe the Bulls get the tiebreaker. Bulls fans haven’t been this excited since they drafted Lonnie Baxter in the second round of the 2002 draft.
Philadelphia 76ers, currently tied for the 8th spot with 4 to play: As you all know AC has been shorting this team all year and it is finally paying off. Webber on one leg plays defense as well as Britney Spears parents her kid, which is not a good thing, unless you hate kids. The Sixers won two in a row with Webber on the bench and kept the momentum going when he came back on Wednesday against the disinterested New Jersey Nets. This team is just horribly put together, the parts simply don’t fit, kind of like Yao Ming trying to hump a midget. Even though they don’t have the most difficult schedule, with games in Charlotte and Orlando and home against Miami and the Nets, I still think they win only one and thus let Billy King make what is fast becoming his annual trip to Secaucus for the draft lottery. No word on whether Billy will trade his seat for Chris Webber’s healthy knee.
So without further ado, on to this weeks picks:
NBA FRIDAY FREE PICKS:
It has been a bad year for your boy AC. I am in jeopardy of finishing below .500 in my NBA regular season picks for the first time in history and that makes me sad. You see, I enjoy winning you money, I enjoy winning me money, and I enjoy drinking Jack and Coke hold the Coke, though I am not sure how that is relevant here, but I do enjoy it oh so much. Unfortunately, this year has been trying in a number of ways: The fund I was working on shut down, I did not have sex with Jessica Alba, I lost my wedding band, I did not have sex with Jessica Simpson, as noted earlier I am barely above .500 so not winning money, and finally I did not have a threesome with Taylor Rain and Janine Lindemulder. Through all of these hardships, I have been sticking in there and treading water in winning you money. This weekend is my chance at redemption and my chance to go into the playoffs on a winning note. So bet along with me and if you know Taylor Rain or Janine Lindemulder, please give them my regards, and by regards I mean phone number and check for $100,000.
Milwaukee -6 at New York:
A must win game for the Bucks and a must show up at the arena game for the Knicks. It would not be surprising to me if the Bucks choked on this one, especially as Larry brown may not coach the Knicks and I am sure his players will want to stick it to him and win without him. Just take the Bucks and hope they play with intensity.
New Jersey at Boston over 194.5:
Boston is playing its young guys, including NBA highlight reel Gerald Green who never saw a dunk he didn’t like. The Nets are playing not to get injured for the playoffs. That can mean only one thing, tons of scoring. The only issue is the potential absence of Delonte West. Without West, the Celtics sometime struggle to score. However, if Pierce is healthy, they should crack 100.
Phoenix -3.5 at Golden Shower State:
Phoenix played a tough Dallas team last night and now has to travel to the Bay Area to play the never mighty Warriors. This could be a problem but giving 3 is essentially a pick ‘em (though now that I said that, watch the Suns win by 2). As long as Nash and Marion come to play, the Suns should roll by 15.
Philadelphia at Miami -5:
I hate this game in more ways than you know. I hate it as if it were Ray Romano starring in Titanic. The Heat have been playing horribly and are about as motivated as Richard Pryor in Superman III and the Sixers need to win. However, just when you think the Sixers are playing well, they will choke. A team with Samuel Dalembert playing can not be taken seriously. Just hope Wade decides to take it to Iverson.
NBA SATURDAY FREE PICKS:
First of all I want to thank Phoenix for blowing an 8 point half time lead last night and losing by 8 to the Warriors. And then, I’d like to thank Mike D’Antoni for not playing Steve Nash or Raja Bell at all. I am so glad I picked that game and then had D’Antoni bend me over like Taylor Rain in a BangBus video. He turned a 3-1 night into a 2-2 night and thus made me 5 lap dances poorer, and for that we are all sad. Tonight’s games will be near impossible to pick since most teams are resting their starters, so please bet these with caution.
Indiana -4 at Charlotte:
This seems like a sucker bet since the Pacers need to win and the Bobcats blow like a three dollar whore (which is good and bad and I will let you discuss that amongst yourselves). Both teams played last night so the under 193.5 seems like a fine bet as well if you are feeling giddy, and if you can tease this game, do it. Just hope Indiana plays with any kind of intensity.
Atlanta +10 at Milwaukee:
When in doubt take the double digit points for a bad team on the road against a playoff contender. Make sense? Of course not, but neither has anything else. Just hope the Hawks show up.
Philadelphia +3 at Orlando:
Have you ever danced with the devil? I have and she is a hot little vixen. Me likey.
Golden Shower State at Portland Under 198.5:
Things I hate in this world: Picking games this late in the season, herpes, and Ray Romano.
