AC's outlook on the NBA is an entertaining original column featured here at Wagercom. If you are prone to NBA betting or even just an NBA fan, make sure you come back often to read his articles and free NBA Basketball picks against the spread. AC will be providing us with a weekly outlook during the basketball season including free NBA Basketball picks on some of the weekend games each Friday and Saturday.
Our NBA expert AC wrapped up the 2003-2004 NBA betting season with a 51% winning percentage against the spread on his basketball picks after 190 games and has improved that to a 57% winning percentage against the spread completing the 2004-2005 season.
NBA WEEK 2 FREE PICKS:
First of all, I know this is an NBA column and I know this story has been played out, but I wanted to pay my respects and give some props to the Carolina Panther cheerleaders, especially the lovely Renee Thomas whom I now may love more than cornbread, Janine Lindemulder, and Drawn Together combined. I want to applaud them for their bravery, their courage, and most of all their unique and heartwarming use of a bathroom stall. They are truly heroes to us all, and by “us all” I mean me, and by me I mean my “alone time.” So hats off to the noble Panther cheerleading crew, my stall is open for them anytime.
As for the NBA, it has been a pretty quiet first week and a half. No huge upsets, no real surprise players (other than the emergence of Smush Parker, and yes I just wrote that), and most of all, and I know this may be the most shocking thing, no forced sodomy in a league that features Kobe Bryant. The most significant news has been the injuries to Shaq and Tracy McGrady which shouldn’t effect either in the long run. So why is the NBA so plain vanilla missionary style so far? It’s because the rookie class is terrible with a capital Fennis Dembo.
Those of you who read my draft recap (and it’s ok to admit it, seriously, I admit to once pleasuring myself to a Nell Carter -Charlotte “you take the good you take the bad” Rae threesome, so this is a place of acceptance) know that I argued that it was like the draft started at pick number 15. There really were no dominant players or even high ceiling players unless you can project out Gerald Green (and don’t give me that Marvin Williams crap either) who is going to be as hit or miss as a Real World cast (I am convinced the Austin season never happened). The thing is, I am a Bogut fan and I think Deron Williams will be very good but neither of these guys is Springfield material (unless you are thinking of Rick Springfield and then I would agree that they could both make crappy effeminate singers). So because of this lack of fresh talent, we are left with many of the same story lines and same teams at the top. All of this is fine, it just makes the games more predictable than usual, kind of like a bowl of cream of wheat or a Brian Scalabrine jump shot clanking off the rim.
So without further ado, on to this weeks picks:
NBA FRIDAY FREE PICKS:
New Jersey at Indiana -6.5:
As I write this I am watching Magic Johnson talk about Yao Ming on the TNT half-time show and I have to admit I am only understanding every 5th word Magic says. If the Scripps National Spelling Bee were smart, and they must be smart, I mean they are a running a spelling bee for f sake, they would hire Magic Johnson to be the guy who pronounces the words to the spellers. This would take comedy to a level not seen since the Michael Jackson Smooth Criminal video (speaking of which, if you have time, this parody even makes me uncomfortable, though I applaud the use of the term ass-womb). What does any of this have to do with the Pacers-Nets? Absolutely nothing. Take the Pacers and hope Artest stays sane.
San Antonio -6 at Boston:
The Spurs have defeated the Celtics 15 straight times, 14 with Tim Duncan. In fact, Duncan has never lost to a Celtic team which I believe is called the Curse of the Pitino. I see no reason why this streak ends tonight. More importantly, will Mark Blount get more than 1 rebound in 35+ minutes?
LA Lakers +2.5 at Philadelphia:
The best thing to happen to Iverson in Philadelphia was TO. I mean, the philly fans hate TO more than they hate Kobe and that says a lot. I have nothing else to add, I just had to chime in on this TO thing as I think it is my civic duty (and yes, I said duty). Take the Lake show as Kobe sticks it to his home town fans.
Detroit at Portland Over 176.5:
I have already learned my lesson about the Detroit Pistons and scoring this year. Apparently they like to do it. While Portland is in the bottom 5 in scoring, Zach Randolph has decided to play the last few games. This will be close to the line but my boy Przybilla is going to hit an offensive rebound to get the over.
NBA SATURDAY FREE PICKS:
2-2 last night thanks to the Lakers choking in the 4th quarter like Kobe Bryant does with hotel workers as well as the Pistons not feeling like scoring. However, AC was able to rely on the Spurs blowing out the Celtics, something as predictable as me dry heaving at a Ray Romano comedy show or Mr. Ferlie overhearing a conversation in the kitchen in a Three’s Company episode.
Tonight will be better. Why, because it’s Saturday and everybody loves the weekend.
.
San Antonio at Washington Over 184.5:
Do I feel great about this game? No. Did the Wiz put up almost 140 last night? Yes. Is there a more underrated vegetable than the beet? No. Take the over and hope Duncan goes off.
Utah +6.5 at Chicago:
I know, I keep going to the Utah well. Is it that I love mormons or that gamblers hate them? Probably a little of both. I don’t think the Jazz win this game but the Bulls are struggling so I don’t expect a blow out. Speaking of blow out, and I know this may make me less than heterosexual, but the reality show Blow Out http://www.bravotv.com/Blow_Out/ was perhaps the greatest reality show ever invented (not including anything done by Diddy), and I am not making that up. Just like Jonathon was a just a guy who loves doing great hair, I am just a guy that loves the NBA.
Golden Shower State +7.5 at Phoenix:
I know what you are all thinking, what is the deal with taking all of these road dogs to cover? Don’t know, but I do know the Warriors love to run so this should be a track meet and we all know in a track meet, the team who gets the ball last will win. Take the points and hope the Warriors come out firing.
Indiana at Milwaukee Under 206.5:
206.5 is a lot of points, it rivals the number of kids Shawn Kemp has and the number of Janine Lindemulder references I make in a week. In short, take the under.
