AC's outlook on the NBA is an entertaining original column featured here at Wagercom. If you are prone to NBA betting or even just an NBA fan, make sure you come back often to read his articles and free NBA Basketball picks against the spread. AC will be providing us with a weekly outlook during the basketball season including free NBA Basketball picks on some of the weekend games each Friday and Saturday.
Our NBA expert AC wrapped up the 2003-2004 NBA betting season with a 51% winning percentage against the spread on his basketball picks after 190 games and has improved that to a 57% winning percentage against the spread completing the 2004-2005 season.
NBA WEEK 4 FREE PICKS:
It is Thanksgiving Weekend and I hope you all had your fair share of turkey, football, and porn. I was going to write about the things I am most thankful for about the NBA but then realized that that was less heterosexual than a Billy Joel concert (and you all know who you are), so I will refrain. Additionally, I am currently sequestered with little internet time so will have to keep this week's column short.
As the season is nearing the crucial 1/8 point (and yes that was sarcasm), teams are starting to round into form and we can get an early read on who is really going to be a contender (The Cavs, and yes I told you so) and who is going to be a pretender (The Celtics, thank you Doc Rivers for having the coaching instincts of ML Carr). In honor of this, I am going to take a look at the two teams playing over their heads and the two teams that will kick it into gear soon.
Better than they have played:
Indiana Pacers:
After a thumping of the Cavs last night the Pacers are 7-3 and finally breaking out of their beginning of the season funk with 3 straight wins. You may ask, how can a 7-3 team be underrated? Easily, they should be 9-1. As usual, Tinsley has been inconsistent and hurt (I believe he either had sand in his vagina or a paper cut) and Stephen Jackson has alternated between solid and the crazies. It is going to take awhile for Artest to get worked back in, and their center position needs to step up, but once they get moving, they should be able to continue the pace they have set over the past three games.
Seattle Supersonics:
First of all, I am not just doing this to appease the angry Sonics fans from last year who berated me for shorting their team all year. Trust me, the loss in my check book was more than enough pain, it cost me an extra lap dance or two and you can't just give those things ups. Here's the deal, the Sonics have two dynamic scorers which is 2 more than most teams have. They should be able to roll out Emanuel Lewis, Danny Bonaduce, and Johan Petro with Lewis and Allen and still be above .500 (as an aside, I believe they are running Petro out there, which means Bonaduce is anxiously waiting by his phone). Once the front court situation gets worked out and Bob Weiss figures out that Danny Fortson might be better on the court than on the bench, the Sonics will eclipse the .500 mark. But hey, this is what you get when you hire Bob Weiss. There is a reason he hasn't been a head coach in 10 years.
Not as good as they have played:
Philadelphia 76ers:
The Sixers are a game above .500 with a team that will be in the lottery. Three of their seven wins have come against the Craptors (twice) and the Oklahoma City Whorenets. They have defeated some decent teams in the Pacers and the Mavs (though Nowitski did not play the second half due to injury or drunkenness, not clear which) but are largely winning because they are shooting lights out. Iverson is on a roll reminiscent of Ben Affleck three years ago, problem is, has anyone seen Mr. Affleck since then? In short, Iverson can not keep this up, the Philly bench will be exposed, and Chris Webber is still going to be a cancer. Trust me, they are lottery bound.
LA Clippers:
Yep, I am still throwing eggs at the bandwagon. I agree that the Clips have improved, and agree that they have a shot at the playoffs. However, they are not a 9-2 team. Once the LA groupies start coming out and you see Chris Kaman hanging out on the strip with Lindsay Lohan, the cast of Laguna Beach, and Gilbert Gottfried, you know their run is over and this scenario can't be too far away.
So without further ado, on to this weeks picks:
NBA FRIDAY FREE PICKS:
A 6-2 weekend last week should have won you all cash. Here's hoping these picks keep it up so you all can buy me something nice for the holidays.
Atlanta at Indiana -11.5:
I hate giving this many points but the Pacers aren't the Celtics which means this will be a blow out. Just hope they can keep their intensity for the whole 4 quarters. I guarantee Al Harrington is not scoring 30+ on Artest like he did the lowly Celtics.
Milwaukee +6 at Minnesota:
This is going to be an ugly game, not as ugly as that chick that used to play Blossom, but ugly nonetheless. The Wolves could blow out the Bucks who are only .500 on the road but I think the Bucks backcourt is too good to roll over here. The Bucks may lose, but not by 6.
Washington +10.5 at Detroit:
The Wiz are on a 5 game losing streak which is not something you like to see. However, they can fill it up and usually play well against the good teams. Look for them to lose by 9 and hope Jamison can get it going down low.
Golden State at Utah Over 178.5:
As much as I think the Warriors -3.5 is a good bet here, the over is much safer. Enjoy Jason Richardson and hope Mehmet is feeling it.
NBA SATURDAY FREE PICKS:
Thanks to the Bucks choking in the 4th quarter, last night was a push at 2-2 instead of 3-1. I'd like to thank Mo Williams for motivating Garnett by giving him 6 stitches with an elbow and thus sparking the Wilves to a 34 point 4th quarter. Yuck. Guess we'll have to win back the $$ today. As an aside, if you read my picks while i said take the Warriors and the over, i also said I liked them -3.5, so if you read between the lines you would have been 3-2.
Miami at Orlando Over 183:
I am clearly missing something here as this line seems completely out of whack. Check the injury report to make sure there are no significant injures other than Shaq. If not, this feels like a sucker bet so be wary.
Miami -3 at Orlando:
Rarely do I ever wager twice on the same game but have you seen the other spreads today? Ugh. they are all terrible. I am not thrilled about this line either as the Magic have been playing well and this is the kind of game the Heat like to lose. Just hope Antoine doesn't shoot 1-13 again.
Minnesota at Cleveland -9:
I hurts me to give Garnett 9 points, especially as he treated me like a cheap whore last night (incidentally cheap whores are my favorite kind, but that is a story for another night). Cleveland is not going to keep blowing teams out but they are rested and the Wolves are coming off of a big victory so expect the proverbial let down game. Just hope Cleveland doesn't fall asleep with the Wolves methodical offense.
Washington +2.5 at Charlotte:
I know, the Wiz just played an emotional double overtime game last night and if you read the above, you know this has let down game written all over it. Problem is, I can't name one player on Charlotte, which isn't a good sign. Take the Wiz and hope Arenas comes to play.
