AC's outlook on the NBA is an entertaining original column featured here at Wagercom. If you are prone to NBA betting or even just an NBA fan, make sure you come back often to read his articles and free NBA Basketball picks against the spread. AC will be providing us with a weekly outlook during the basketball season including free NBA Basketball picks on some of the weekend games each Friday and Saturday.

Our NBA expert AC has had 3 consecutive winning seasons picking NBA games against the spread for a combined 317-281 record yielding a 53% winning percentage which would have won you money including the VIG. AC does this out of the kindness of his heart and for the naked pictures of your girlfriends you send him as a token of your appreciation. So enjoy the columns and the picks..

AC'S NBA BASKETBALL FREE PICKS WEEK 18:

While the column has been delayed this week, you all should have enjoyed the 6-2 weekend I just threw at you for free. You should now take that cash and put it all on any kind of under involved with Pacman Jones and when he goes to jail, gets kicked out of the league, or winds up on Dancing with the Stars.

With Selection Sunday this weekend (well, Sunday to be precise, hence the name), it is a good time to look back at the top 5 picks from 2006 and see how they have performed. Just remember the 2006 draft was Rosie O’Donnell to the 2007 draft’s Kate Bosworth.

Andrea Bargnani: Met or exceeded expectations

I initially compared Bargnani to the Italian Matt Bullard but he has proven to be much more than that. While he hasn’t shot the ball as well as I expected (42% from the field, 38% from 3), he is scoring 11 points a game which is about 8 more than I would have thought. His peripheral numbers aren’t that great (4 rebounds and 1 assist per game) but he has been worked into the rotation slowly and is only averaging 25 minutes per game. To put it in perspective, over the last 10 games he is averaging 15 points with 5 boards, and shooting 46% from 3 and 47% from the field. Those are pretty good numbers for a 21 year old from Italy. Is he going to be as good as most #1 picks? Probably not, but he is certainly no Kwame Brown, especially as I think he likes women and hates ruining birthday cakes.

LaMarcus Aldridge: Not quite meeting expecations

I compared him to a younger Mark Blount, which wasn’t a compliment, and now that seems like it would actually be a compliment. LaCrapage has averaged 8 points and 4 boards for the year but since the all-star break he is averaging 13 points and 5 boards while shooting 53% from the field. Those aren’t bad numbers, but from the #2 pick I think Portland was expecting a lot more. While he is still young and raw, it is too early to tell if he is going to be William Bedford or Shawn Marion. I like that he is showing improvement, but I don’t like the fact that he is inconsistent and frankly not very good.

Adam Morrison: Not meeting expectations

I have often said that as a scorer, Adam Morrison’s problem in the NBA is that he simply can not score with any consistency or without hucking up 30 shots a games, which is a problem. While he’s scoring 13 points a game, he is shooting 38% from the field. That is just plain awful. Plus he doesn’t pass the ball, rebound, or shoot free throws particularly well either. He’s a worse shooting Matt Carroll with diabetes. In other words, this is going to go down as a horrible pick at #3. If Morrison is ever an all-star in anything but an NBDL game I will be shocked and awed.

Tyrus Thomas: Not meeting expectations

I actually had to verify that Thomas was in fact the #4 pick. To say he has underperformed expectations is like saying Melissa Etheridge is “a bit dikey.” 4 points and 3 boards in 11 minutes per game is not what you want to see out of the #4 slot. Plus, we all know he is just in it for the money with his comments about his efforts in the slam dunk contest so we can look forward to him really working on improving his game (and yes that was sarcasm). With a guaranteed contract in hand, Thomas is going to get fat, smoke some sticky icky, and never get that second contract. Just one more of John Paxson’s recent boneheaded moves.

5. Shelden Williams: Bust

You can’t spell “Mishandles Well I” without Shelden Williams (no, really, you can’t, it’s an anagram, trust me). Williams has continued the tradition of other Duke big men sucking in the NBA, grabbing the mantle from Eric Montross, Cherokee Parks, and Shavlik Randolph. Williams is just too slow and unathletic to play in the NBA, it’s that simple. But hey, another great pick by Billy Knight who is doing his best to keep 4th string point guards employed in the NBA (Tyronne Lue, Anthony Johnson) by refusing to draft a good one (passing on Chris Paul and potentially Randy Foye or Brandon Roy). Billy Knight is to drafting what Shelden Williams is to power forwards. Must be great to be a Hawks fan, how is Marvin Williams treating you these days?

Friday Night NBA Picks

Los Angeles Lakers +1 at Philadelphia:

The Lakers are in an awful slump and they still don’t have Odom while the Sixers have won 5 in a row. However, Kobe will be motivated by playing in Philly where the fans treat him like a Colorado hotel worker. The Lakers just need to run to beat the Sixers and they are due for a blow out victory. Take the Lakers and hope Kobe goes off.

Memphis at Atlanta Over 197:

Both teams play defense like it is going to give them herpes. The Grizzlies haven’t been scoring as much as usual but the Hawks’ defense should be a panacea for that. Take the over and root for Gasol and Joe Johnon to trade hoops.

New Jersey at Houston -6.5:

Yao is playing at about 20% which is still probably 300 times better than Mikki Moore. The Nets are slumping worse than Andrew Dice Clay since his 1988 stand-up album. After Kidd and Vince Carter, the Nets roster is emptier than Dickens novel. Take the Rockets and hope they are healthy.

Detroit at Denver Under 198.5:

Why not? You gotta stick with what got you here.

Saturday Night NBA Picks:

Philadelphia at Indiana -4:

The Pacers have lost seven in a row (and remember your boy AC picked them to miss the playoffs at the beginning of the year before the rest of the East stopped playing) and need a victory. The Sixers have won six in a row and are playing well together as a team. However, the Sixers still can’t win on the road and the Pacers have to win eventually, so why not tonight? Just hope Troy Murphy and Jermaine O’Neal do anything. Also, now that Mo Cheeks has been assured of coaching the Sixers next year, look for Philly to stop playing hard.

Cleveland +1.5 at Milwaukee:

I have been avoiding the Cavs for most of the year but LeDong is on fire. He is averaging almost 36 points per game in his last five games and seemingly playing like he cares. The Bucks are much improved with Redd and Mo Williams back in the line-up but the Cavs should be able to neutralize at least one of them with Larry Hughes. Take the Cavs and hope they come to play.

New Orleans +10.5 at Utah:

Yes the Whorenets just played a barn burner against Phoenix last night while the Jazz were home in Utah not drinking caffeine but marrying a ton of chicks and listening to Jerry Sloan rant against the gays. So, Utah has that going for them. Plus, the Jazz beat the Whorenets by 14 points last Saturday in New Orleans or Oklahoma City, take your pick. This game has all the trappings of a Jazz blowout except for one thing; It is very difficult to blow out the same team twice in one week. Take the Whorenets and hope Chris Paul can control the tempo.

New York Knicks +6.5 at Washington:

I hate picking this game, hate it, hate it, hate it. I hate picking the Knicks worse than Pacman Jones hates strippers taking his money or Al Gore hates global warming. However, the Knicks are not getting blown out of this one. They are pretty much the only team in the East still trying so take the Knicks and root for them to lose by 6.
