AC'S NBA 2007-2008 PLAYOFFS CONFERENCE FINALS FREE NBA PICKS & COLUMN:
COLUMN COMING SATURDAY....
FRIDAY 5/30/08 FREE NBA PLAYOFF PICK:
Boston at Detroit -5:
Despite a herculean effort by Kendrick Perkins, who channeled his inner Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O’Neal, and John Holmes (hence Jeff Van Gundy’s need to verbally fellate him every 30 seconds), and a rejuvenated Ray Allen, the Celtics barely held on to defeat the Pistons in Game 5.
I am not a betting man (actually, scratch that), but I am 96.8% sure that neither Kendrick Perkins nor Ray Allen will put up repeat performances tonight. Therefore, in order for the Celtics to win they will need Good Rondo to show up, Paul Pierce to drop 40, KG to shoot the open 5 footers in the 4th quarter, and either Posey, PJ Brown, Leon Powe (who may or may not have died), or Glen “Big Baby” Davis to put up big numbers. In other words, the Celtics have almost no shot tonight.
Add in the predictable home court biased refs (seriously, I don’t even need to watch this game to know Boston is going to get screwed since ABC wants a Sunday Game 7) and all Detroit needs to do is play at their own pace.
I know Rip Hamilton is playing with a bruised vagina, I mean elbow, I know RaWeed Wallace is one technical from being suspended from Game 7, and I know Chauncey Billups is still playing with a strained hamstring, but the Pistons will have the crowd, the energy, and the experience. Three things the Celtics will lack.
This seems like a no brainer pick, so buyer beware, but take the Pistons, give the 5 points, accept that the Refs will be biased, and block out 3 hours on Sunday to watch Game 7.
