2008 FREE NFL PICKS WEEK 7
Mike Nolan and Other Oddities…
Normally this column wanders to and fro. It touches on all topics, from porn to lesbians to girl-on-girl action to catholic school girl uniforms to tribbing. But today I am afraid we can only cover one topic, and that is football.
My loyal readers know three things about me; they know I love porn, they know I love to party and they know I love the 49ers. Now Jiggy is, at his heart, a cold and ruthless gambler and that is why we don’t bet on the Niners, we watch them and root, we watch them and hope, and then we watch them and blubber.
So last weekend, while I was enjoying my easy money coming in on the Packers and basking in the glow of the NYJ’s covering (like champs), I had the distinct displeasure of watching the Niner game. It was a total and complete debacle.
First, the over arching themes. Theme one is that Mike Nolan is supposed to be some defensive genius. He was with the Ravens whilst they dominated other teams like I dominate my wife (only when she is bad very bad). So Nolan comes over to the Niners and what happens to the defense?
The Niners waste money and draft picks and then end up as one of the bottom five defenses again. This is a complete failure by the coaching staff and the front office.
Mike Nolan drafts Alex Smith a guy who was never, ever good enough to play in the NFL. (If good enough to play see Jeff George, Kerry Collins, Trent Dilfer Alex Smith wasn’t good enough to win.) Great pick Niners. That was like throwing money down the asshole of Taylor Rain (as in the money fell for ever and will never come back). And also what some of our readers will fail to recognize, that was also a gigantic opportunity cost. It isn’t just that the guy we drafted sucked, it is also that the people we could have drafted might have made a difference. It looks like Aaron Rodgers might have been a better pick. (We all have to correct for time to learn and the surrounding supporting cast.) Another bone-headed maneuver for Nolan.
Another theme of the Nolan era is this (and this is probably the worst) he never accepts the blame for losses, but rather puts it on the players. This is a loser mentality. Not only does it show low character, it also has the detrimental effects of bringing your players down. No one likes to be on a losing team but it is far worse when the coach is giving you shit in the press. Nolan should say it is all his fault. In reminds me of something that Bill Parcels said. I will paraphrase/fabricate….
‘I was a young linebackers coach in college. We were going up against one of our archrivals and they were a big play action team. So all week we drilled play action and all week I told my backers to look for it. Well, on game day, it is late in the game and we are close. And then they do it, they run the play action. My linebackers bite hard on the run and the ball is thrown over them to put us down two scores. Well, as my backers come off the field I start hollering at them. And my head coach turns to me and says, ‘Bill, shut up.’ And I responded that I had coached them all week on that play. The head coach just answered, ‘well I guess you didn’t coach them well enough.’
In the end, the head of an organization is responsible for that organization’s performance. Did Dick Fuld actually buy, structure or sell any CMBS or MBS (mortgage related securities)? No, but his organization did and thus, he is responsible.
And then after the main themes of idiocy, there are the tactics of idiocy. Don’t get me started on the play calling (I know that was partially Martz’s fault) but the challenge of the field goal just typifies Nolan’s ineptitude. Forget for a second that the play is unchallengeable but look at the facts. The best person in the entire stadium to decide if the kick is good or not is the umpire/referee standing under the goalposts and that person said the field goal was good. So how could the coach, on the sidelines, who botches decisions all the time, see it any better? He couldn’t. And this is in a game where one could argue that the timeout was worth more than the three points he was challenging.
The short story is that the time is now to fire the guy. He has had 3+ years to show improvement and he hasn’t. There is no use in keeping him till the end of the season if things don’t turn around now, this will be a rebuilding year anyway.
I am sorry to have burdened all of you with this tirade. But sometimes it is necessary. The footloose and fancy-free Jiggy will return next week. Especially after a nice 4-0 weekend and a week when the S&P manages to go up.

JIGGY'S FREE NFL PICKS
Broadway Brett (NYJ) @ Big Al’s (Oak) Number 4 (Jets) -3
I am riding the tuna train to tuna-ville. Or in other words, so long as Broadway Brett and the Mangenius are covering, I am betting on them. I know it is hard to play at Shell’s Hell, the Black Bottom, The Mausoleum, but the Raiders are a shell of a team and they just need to get to next season. The Jets, thanks to some injuries and some inspired playing are actually in the hunt. I am on the J-E-T-S.

Boning Kim Kardashian (NO) @ Carolina on my Mind (car.) NO +3
Reggie Bush is boning KK. I think that is delightful for everybody. I think that has improved his play. I hate him, I hate Drew Brees and I hate hurricanes (that last one was a lie), but I think that they are a pretty good team. I am on the Aint’s.

What is white, small, broken and Smells like Jessica Simpson (Dal.) @ Marc Bulger (stl) Dallas -7
The lambs just won their superbowl. They managed to beat a real NFL team. I bet that they all are still partying today. I know Romo’s finger may be hurt (or does it smell like Jessica) but he has been practicing and frankly, I don’t care if DJ was starting at QB for the Cowboys, they should annihilate the lambs.

Sea Chickens (sea.) @ VD (TB) TB -10.5
The Seahawks have quit. Alert the media and let that running back from Georgia know that he will be playing in the 405 next year. (I have no idea who the first pick in the draft will be next year but that dude will go to either Seattle or Cincy and that kid from Georgia seems like a nice choice.)
Many of my fans ask me where I wager. I have a gambling problem so I bet on everything from the ponies to how long (in inches) my excrement is. But I have been a proud customer to superbook.com for some time. They have good lines, great promotions, many betting options and most importantly, I get my money from them on time. They have signed a deal with Wagercom.com. So if you are looking for an online book, try them out. They are Jiggy tested and Jiggy approved.
