Run Ricky, Run.

I spent the weekend doing three things, watching Entourage on HBOonDemand, pondering the merits of the porn netflix (yes, I am a member) and watching preseason football on my Tivo. I have many thoughts and many observations – I’d like to share them with you, my loyal readers.

Entourage
I am both concerned and intrigued by where the fab four (Vinny Chase, E, Turtle and Johnny Drama) are heading.

Sloane Ferris Bueller's Day OffI am excited about Eric’s new romance with Sloan (I am somewhat concerned that she hearkens back – too closely – to the Sloane character in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off - that Sloane did much for my sexual development and I can’t decide if the current one is hot in her own right or if she is getting hotness points because of this memory that rattles around in my brain, just millimeters below the conscious.) Not withstanding previous discourse, E is doing far better than he should.

Mandy Moore Is She Hot?What is concerning is the affair betwixt Vinny and Mandy Moore. Here is the issue… In my list of hottest women on the planet right now, I have a clear one and two. It is definitely Angelina Jolie then Jessica Simpson. After those two, I felt as if there was a huge drop off. So, along comes Mandy Moore and our hero, Vince falls head over heels for her. Vince is the ultimate alpha male (this is a blatant lie – he is actually somewhat shy, insecure and needs the approval of his friends, this is what makes him both real and interesting, but what I mean is that he bones every hot chick on the show) and shouldn’t fall for one girl. But he does. So at first I was agitated by this – how could our lothario succumb to one woman? But then, after watching her in a couple of shows, I realized. She really is that hot. So herein lies the issue, first off, I have to add Mandy to my top two (now three) and secondly, I have to be concerned that Vince will no longer be a credible reason for different hot girls to stream in and out Entourage. I mean how many guest appearances by porn stars can you have in the series? I don’t want to cast dispersions or imply that I didn’t enjoy seeing Jesse Jane, Teagan and some other porn girl in the show, because I enjoyed it immensely.

In any event, you can see that I was effected deeply by the show.

Back to the NFL…

I watched the Chargers, the Dolphins (twice), the Vikes (for a series), the Pack, the Chefs and read about the Bears and the Niners. Here are my rapid fire thoughts.

1) Duante Culpepper looks like he is firing on all cylinders. Judging from two series, it looks like he won’t miss Randy Moss all that much. He was sharp, decisive and huge. It is hard to go wrong with that combination of skills. The next time someone starts whining about the lack of Randy Moss, just remind them that of the 4,717 passing yards that Duante racked up, only 700 or so of them went to Randy.

2) Also in this game it became clear that although Mike Bennett is going to be the ‘feature back’ he is no Onterrio ‘whizzinator’ Smith. In fact, he is going to be a constant weakness for the Vikes.

3) Priest Holmes is the real deal. He looked like a man playing amongst boys. Any doubts about his injury-riddled past should be forgotten. If he doesn’t get hurt, look for him to approach 2 bills this season and like 87 touch downs. Also, LJ (Larry Johnson) looks too good to be a back-up. I hope someone will make a move for him. It’d be nice to see a real running game in Cleveland.

4) The Bolts are not as good as they think they are. They need Antonio Gates back and they need LT to continue to do what LT do (ebonics intended).

5) Although Marty thinks that Darren Sproules is ‘electric’ he is still 5’ 2” and unable to make NFL defenders miss. Look for him in the CFL or AFL soon.

6) Is it me or has Brett Favre gone from being a good ol’ boy from the south who just loves to play football to an arrogant, taciturn jerk-off? During his somewhat shoddy play, there were clips interspersed about how it isn’t his job to help Aaron Rodgers mature, he doesn’t think that Javon Walker should have held out and other things. Brett, just go throw interceptions and shut up. You aren’t an elder statesman, you aren’t speaking for the league and you aren’t even speaking for the team. Go win another superbowl and then you can start telling everyone what to do, until then, you are a loud mouth who is five or six years past your prime and one or two years past retirement.

7) With the above being said, the Pack looked alright and it looks to me that Aaron Rodgers may be OK. Also, Najeh Davenport turned in some nice runs.

8) Apparently even pre-season 49ers games aren’t viewable outside of the bay area. Rumor has it that the only highlight in the game was Tim Rattay. Let me say that again, Tim Rattay was the highlight. What a freaking trainwreck.

9) The poor Bears. How are you going to spend big dollars on a big play wideout (Mushin Muhammed – formerly known as cassius clay) and then lose the only person that can credibly get him the ball? What a mess. Maybe they’ll trade for Tim Rattay – see comment above.

10) Aaron Brooks still sucks.

11) The Dolphins defense looks strong. They are showing all kinds of blitz packages and different fronts. Of course in the preseason and early season, the defense has an unfair advantage over the offense. But still come on. Byron Leftwich got sacked five times in the first quarter. That is ridiculous.

12) It is nice to see the Colts and 0-2, even if it is just the preseason.

13) And the final observation, Ricky Williams is for real.

Ricky WilliamsI have wished for Ricky to come back to the game for some time now. And I am glad that he has. The guy doesn’t even watch a football game for a year and then comes back. Does he look rusty? Sure, he did last week. But in the game this weekend, he looked awesome. At the end of the first quarter he took the pitch (on that crappy misdirection fake to the fullback that no one bites on) and was caught dead to rights by the rookie, Scott Starks. But Ricky made a move that was so amazing, so instinctual. It was magic. The poor kid Starks, lost his jock on the move and Ricky was by him and 10 yards down field. It does bear mention that the little cornerback caught up to Ricky, only to be dumped again by the holistic one. It was great.

I am so glad the NFL is back. You know how when you go with the Stranger and you feel as if part of you has died, but then the tingling of life starts to come back. That is exactly how I feel right now.

Oh, and in regard to the porn netflix, it is good. But I sometimes wonder if the internet has destroyed the need for DVD porn. Thoughts?

Look for breakdowns of each division starting this week.
