8/26/03 Week 1/Week 2 Picks

Auburn -4 over USC - Why? Well I don’t like SC first of all, and it is fun to root against them. However I do have other reasons. SC replaces a QB and all their RBs in a complicated offense. Not an easy thing to do under the best circumstances much less doing it against a top ten team in their house... Auburn’s defense should give them fits if the young DBs play well. I would rather get this game at a 3 or 3.5 point spread, but I can live with it at 4. Also USCs defense has lost all world safety Troy Polomalu. The front four are excellent but not good enough to beat the Tigers themselves. If SC gets down early they could be in a world of hurt. I’m taking Auburn and giving the points.

Wisconsin -3 over WV - This one is easy the badgers are a pretty good team, West Virginia really isn't. WV has a rebuilt o-line and a questionable front four. The Badgers will not be surprised by a team dependant on running the ball duh! Wisconsin covers this spread

Oklahoma St. +8 over NU - I used to love riding the Huskers as they whooped up on inferior opponents. But the worm has turned. Say it with me, Frank Solich is no Tom Osborne, get it, got it, good! If OSU can knock off OU they can easily beat Nebraska. I doubt the Nebraska corners can hang with Mr. Rashaun Woods (the best wideout in the country). If OSU can stop up the running game the fact remains Jamal Lord can’t throw the ball, to the point where his Mom actually will still not let him throw the ball in the house. Take OSU and the points.

Northwestern -6 over KU - Kansas had the worst D in the Big 12 last year, Northwestern can light up almost anyone. You do the math. This should be a high scoring game. But come on it’s Kansas. Their basketball team might be better football players. I of course mean no offense by this. Well actually yeah I do. Bad big 10 vs. bad big 12 I’m taking the bad big ten. Northwestern and giving the points.

V-Tech -20 over UCF - Another good team vs. bad team. V-techs special teams alone should cover this spread. Tech has talent and something to prove. They are also well coached and play well early in the season. Virginia Tech will cover.

Good Luck and remember to check back next week for week 2 game winners.
