9/17/03 Week 5 Picks

DJ apparently is still a bit upset after last weeks performance and so he is sparing us is usual pre-pick rant. I have heard through the grapevine that there has been a buzz recently surrounding DJ's football picks in the betting world. Apparently he is gaining much attention as a contrarian indicator of college football winners against the spread. Do you know that by simply applying this easy formula you would have won a healthy 58% of your games this year. That is why I keep debating whether we should be selling DJ's picks instead of keeping them free. I guess we'll continue to be generous for the time being... Here are DJ's college football picks against the spread for week 5…

UCLA + 19 at OU

The Bruins can’t be this bad right? Well they could be but I think the bruins can keep it close. Unless you are a UCLA fan I advise you to put your money elsewhere. I just sold my tickets for this game if that gives you any idea. But I keep the faith,, can I get a witness…no…I didn’t think so.

Oregon at Michigan -7 ½

OU ain’t that great. Fact is the pac-10 is weak this year. Michigan looks like a contender this year. Oregon won’t get shut out like ND did as they actually understand the concept of the forward pass, but it would take a serious let down for this to be a close game.

ASU +9 at Iowa

This one goes the opposite of the Michigan game. Iowa is going to get passed all over a la the orange bowl. Nothing better than watching a traditional fat kid running offense/defense get out-quicked. Iowa should have learned from the Orange Bowl don’t schedule Pac-10 teams. That being said ASU is nothing special. Bet this game but don’t waste your time actually watching it. Instead wash your car or download porn.

Boise St at Oregon St. -5

Mike Riley is a lousy coach but come on. It’s a team from Idaho. Potatoes people, for god’s sake potatoes!

BYU -7 at Stanford

Stanford lost a scrimmage to UC Davis before the season. I’m not kidding they really did. They hired Buddy Teevens aka &#x201CSpurriers’s offensive coordinator” But wait Spurrier is his own offensive coordinator right…ooopsie. Nothing better than having a glorified graduate asst. as your top man. It’s amazing Stanford is in the top 5 academically making decisions like that. Oh yeah they also can’t play football. Look for the Stanford players to show how smart they are by not showing up and hoping for a new coach. No need to risk an injury playing for this living nightmare.

Kent St. +24 ½ at Penn State

Joe Pa, oh Joe Pah it might just be time to clean the geritol out of the desk and go see your great grandchildren graduate college. The dream is over. There really is no room for old war heroes anymore. Sigh. I just picked Kent State over Penn State, it makes me want to sit on the floor and bawl like a four year old, thank god for antidepressants.

East Carolina at Wake Forest -19

The Deacons turned on me last week and lost to Purdue. This is very reason I will never have children. You trust them, you love them, you care for them, you bet hard earned money on them. And what do they do? They stab you in the back. But I love them dammit I really do. But this is there last chance…this time I really mean it. Do you see middle Tennessee State anywhere in my picks? That’s right you don’t. Think about it.

Texas Tech at NC State -6 ½

Best spread offense in the country and what does NC State coach and offensive genius Coach Amato do from the one yard line against the defending champion with the game on the line? Well duh he dives his athletically challenged QB into the line and lose the game. QB sneak, Qb sneak, run, game over, cry. Fortunately Tech ain’t exactly Ohio State. Chucky say bye-bye to the BCS, and when all is said and done Phillip Rivers will have exactly the same of Heisman trophies I have… one…I mean none. Oh yeah they still cover/

Miami (oh) at Colorado State -6 ½

I love CSU they’re just so tough and spunky. Yeah spunky. Bet this one based simply on the amount of spunk the rams have…okay maybe that’s a little foul , but seriously they are very spunky. Especially their QB Van Pelt that guy is flat out full of spunk!

Georgia +1 at LSU

I hate QBs that played minor league baseball. Since LSU has one of those they can’t win, it’s a fact, look it up. They always say these kids come back more mature after a failed career in basball. Well duhhh, they’re 30 years old and still in college you’re either mature or how shall we say…special. Side note: Can you imagine how great it must be to be that old and in college. You can hit on 18 year olds and it’s not even creepy. “She’s a freshman and I’m a sophomore what’s the big deal.” Georgia’s college age kids are better QBs, Dawgs should put the whoop on the Tigers.
